Anyone who consecrates themselves to Jesus through Mary is a Knight of the Immaculate. There are many ways to consecrate oneself to Jesus through Mary. You can start after contemplation with a simple prayer with Mary’s help you will develop the spiritual means to go one to further consecrate yourself to a more complex and fulfilling consecration act. The Militia of the Immaculata (MI) is a worldwide evangelization movement founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe in 1917 that encourages total consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary as a means of spiritual renewal for individuals and society. The MI movement is open to all Catholics over 7 years old. It employs prayer as the main tool in the spiritual battle with evil. Members of the MI also immerse themselves in apostolic initiatives throughout society, either individually or in groups, to deepen the knowledge of the Gospel and our Catholic Faith and to spread devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Militia of the Immaculate (in Latin Militia Immaculatæ: Knights of the Immaculate). So Militia means Knights. Maximilian Kolbe wanted to create a worldwide army of people consecrated to Mary the Immaculate. To evangelize and convert the whole world to her son Jesus. Knights are to first work on their own spiritual renewal then their family and people in their circle. The are to pray daily for the conversion of the people especially those who are in opposition of the church. By means of conversion through prayer, love and the Miraculous Medal we can defeat the forces of darkness by saving the souls of those within their ranks, who will switch to Jesus and expose their previous masters plans and join our ranks. Every soul saved is one less enemy and one more ally under God.
As a Knight of the Immaculate Conception, you are totally devoting yourself, your life and everything you own to Mary. You offer yourself up as a paint brush for her to use in her fight against the devil and heresies. As one of her Knights you fall under her protection, and you will find she subtle leads you in ways to accomplish her will. Many who consecrate themselves to Mary find a peace and inner strength needed to perceiver in the battle of life. Don’t feel you need to understand everything fully to consecrate yourself. Just follow the guidelines created by Saint Kolbe and afterwards you will find understand more and more with her help.
